Young Eastchester Girl Scouts planted 200 new trees this year to celebrate Earth Day and Arbor Day. The planting took place at the Girl Scouts’ own tree nursery: a plot of land donated by the Town of Eastchester. This is the 10th annual planting event at the nursery, and trees that have “graduated” from the nursery can be found throughout Eastchester. Each year, the trees are donated by Almstead Tree & Shrub Care Company, and Arborist Michael Marks oversees the project. Judith Blau, an incredible educator and Eastchester resident, plans the event as part of her Treetures initiative. Visits from her Treeture characters definitely make the day magical for the kids.
A couple of Treetures stopped by the nursery for the planting.
Arborist Michael Marks teaches the Scouts how to plant the trees so that they stay healthy well into the future. To learn more about the Treetures, the nursery, and the event, visit: http://www.treetures.com/Events.htm.
